Britain Raises Low

At least in the world of film. First there was the Golden Globes. Then comes the Oscars. Of course, we also have the British Academy Film Awards. It seems that many many years after that embarrassing prediction of Colin Welland (of Chariots of Fire fame) in 1982, the British are making a comeback in the world of film.

Just a backgrounder, for those who do not remember Welland and his infamous statement…in his acceptance speech at the Oscars in 1982, he said that “the British are coming.” That is, British films would wow the whole world. It was a bold and patriotic statement, which unfortunately, did not materialise.

This year, though, it seems that finally, the British can boast of some really good movies. A feature in the entertainment section of The Times Online states:

The nominations provided ample evidence of the breadth of British success, with recognition for block-busters ( Mamma Mia! The Movie and The Dark Knight were both substantially British in terms of the talent involved) and purist arthouse fare. Notable among the latter were Hunger, an uncompromising meditation on the IRA hunger striker Bobby Sands, and Man On Wire, a front-runner for the Best Documentary Oscar.

This is not to say that the British actors and actresses have been perfect, though. Who can forget Kate Winslet forgetting the Angelina Jolie’s name in her acceptance speech? Then again, she just might have been overwhelmed by everything that was going on. The important thing is that the British film industry is on a hot streak – something that everyone involved should contribute to keep going.

Increasing numbers of British pets are being given Prozac to help them battle against depression, a leading veterinary expert has revealed. Tropical birds such as parrots are the worst affected by depression, according to television vet Romain Pizzi. Mr Pizzi, who presents Creature Clinic on BBC3 and is a specialist in zoo and wildlife medicine for the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, said pets are affected when owners leave them alone for hours on end.

He said: “Contrary to some people’s expectations parrots are very intelligent and sensitive animals. Typically if people go out to work all day their parrot will get very bored and frustrated and eventually develop depression. Symptoms often include plucking out their feathers or self-harming, which is obviously very dangerous. When Cockatoos in particular are depressed they can start to self-mutilate and peck their own legs to the bone.”

These days we buy all luxurious gifts and different things that are not life necessary for survival. At the beginning of the next year, many people will realize that they are in a financial crisis, because of all expenditure incurred by the New year time. Of course, this is not the only reason why people have debts. The company is commonly believed that the more you have, the more you are. We are totally neglecting the feelings of personal happiness, which is not linked with money. Indeed, it is difficult to be happy if we are threaten to shut down electricity, comes the time when we do not know what we will eat. Here I will describe what is my openion.

1.)Those with both debts and savings are seriously overspending. The solution is simple; pay the debts off before you save, maybe even including your mortgage. And forget the old-style ‘must have an emergency savings fund' logic, getting rid of debts beats that too.

2.) Sadly many people have much more debt than savings. So even if you use all your cash to pay them off, you'll still have debts left. Therefore it's important that you prioritise using your savings to get rid of the most expensive debts.

3.) Make a budget. For this to work, you ideally need to track all of your income and spending for a full one month period. Two months is better, but this can be a chore, so getting one accurate month behind you will help. Until you have completed this, it is almost impossible to offer any sort of debt management advice. How can you help point people in the right direction if neither you or they can decide where they are?

4.) Look for a second job. If all you can find is part-time work for one evening each week at which you earn, say $40, that is actually $2,000 per year gross. That may be enough to repay a small loan. Use the money to overpay and clear a debt. That will free more of your budget to repay another loan. If you can keep this up for perhaps three years, you will be substantially better off financially. There is a second point to this advice. If you are working harder, you have less hours of 'free time' in which you need to be entertained. That means that you spend slightly less whilst earning slightly more, a double 'whammy' for your debts.

Best advice: Go to Debt Management Plans and tell them what you need. They will help you organise your plans to pay your debts.

Cartoons and comics - what is their influence in pop culture?

Working in advertising means instantly creating directed ideas. To do that good one has to read a lot, watch a lot.

And my hypotesis is that reading many comics, watching many cartoons and films, reading many books, listening to many different music styles in childhood rather heavily influences instant creativness.

We have a brief to tell something. But tasks are quite complicated, since brief significantly narrows the field for ideas.

And co-workers I have worked with (in different countries for the last 12 years) - introverts or extroverts, lovers of comics and the ones that read and read a lot are much faster coming up with neat ideas.

When four of Santa’s elves got sick, the trainee elves did not produce toys as fast as the regular ones, and Santa began to feel the Pre-Christmas pressure.

Then when he began to load the sleigh, one of the floorboards cracked, the toy bag fell to the ground and all the toys were scattered.

Frustrated, Santa went in the house for a cup of apple cider and a shot of rum. When he went to the cupboard, he discovered the elves had drank all the cider and hidden the liquor. In his frustration, he accidentally dropped the cider jug, and it broke into hundreds of little glass pieces all over the kitchen floor. He went to get the broom and found the mice had eaten all the straw off the end of the broom.

Just then the doorbell rang, and irritated Santa marched to the door, yanked it open, and there stood a little angel with a great big Christmas tree.

The angel said very cheerfully, ‘Merry Christmas, Santa. Isn’t this a lovely day? I have a beautiful tree for you. Where would you like me to stick it?’

And so began the tradition of the little angel on top of the Christmas tree.

Mammoth Mountain Ski Area

Just got back from Mammoth. I love that mountain they have the longest runs took us fifteen minutes from the top of Cloud Nine to Eagle lodge. It's such a big mountain you'll have a whole run to yourself, if you go to the outer runs. However the terrain parks need more medium to big jumps. They are either HUGE!! or small only a couple medium big jumps.I've been to most of the resorts in California and Mammoth is my favorite with Kirkwood second. Can't wait to go again.

I just got my hands on Sigma DP1. I have to get me a SD memory card, that I forgot to ask for. And fill the battery. Then I’m all set to get busy. It seems like it’s going to be a busy tech testing week, I’ll probably get Canon 1Ds mkIII tomorrow, Canon 450D 18-55 IS kit and hopefully another nice lens to complement both bodies. iHate iPhone, v2

Well, the iPhone v2 lasted three days before I returned it, for these reasons:

No cell connection in my house or on my way to work, even though I always had great connection with my Nokia e90 or Blackberry. (I'm told that the 3G iPhone coverage is not that great in many areas.)

The battery lasts less than a day. (I'm told that 3G consumes batteries.)

I could not tell which part of the phone was the top vs bottom each time I picked it up.

The keyboard sucks. It really, really does. (Most Apple lovers will first say they learned to type almost as fast on the iPhone as their prior qwerty phone, until you challenge them to a typing contest, at which point they say "well, you really shouldn't type that much on a phone anyway, because we enlightened Apple lovers learn to smell the roses (when we're not playing games on our iPhones)".

The iPhone kept crashing. Really.

Many common operations were significantly slower on iPhone than on Blackberry. For example, when I want to lookup a contact on the Blackberry, I pickup my Blackberry, roll-click Contacts and start typing the first letter(s) of the contacts name. On the iPhone, I pick it up, press the home button, wait for it to light up, then I see it put me back to the last application I was using, which is usually not the one I use now. So then I hit the Home button again. Then I go down to Contacts. But then I notice that the iPhone doesn't have a search function, instead, it thinks you need only use its clever drag-scroll (sometimes with initial right column click to letter index), which works fine when you have a couple hundred contacts, but not when you are a business user with a couple thousand contacts.

I could go on, and on, but you get the point. The iPhone is a toy. It is not for someone who treats mobile productivity (phone, email, contacts, calendar) seriously.

Maybe I will try again with the iPhone v3 in a year. But for now, I have only one question -- will it blend?

Ingredients:

6 ears corn with husks
3 tablespoons butter or margarine
1 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 dash black pepper
2 tablespoons water

Directions:

Pull husks carefully from corn so that husk remains attached to the bottom of corn ear. Remove silk from corn.

Melt butter in small saucepan, add seasonings, and stir. Brush butter mixture on ear of corn. Pull cornhusk up to cover corn and tie with string.

Place in 13 x 9-inch glass baking dish, sprinkle with water, cover with foil and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

For Grilled Barbecued Corn: Prepare corn as above to the point of placing corn in the baking dish. Instead place corn directly on the grill over a medium hot charcoal fire.

Cook for 30 to 40 minutes, turning every few minutes. Remove husk which will be brown and dry before serving.

American president Georg Bush came in our country (Slovenia) yesterday. Massive road stops and every 14 days more expensive gasoline is only what he brought, there is no good news. Economy is already in such crisis, people live worse day to day and it is only the matter of time, when they will say to us, give us money for breathing (polluted) air. Our prime minister Janša gave Bush bicycle for 4000€, probably he wanted to say: "Bush, take this bicycle for your ride next time, when you come in our country"!! Bush gave to Janša board, but I only wonder what will our boy with his new toy?! I think, there is more than enough reasons, to say BUSH GO HOME!!!

How to make Potica - Slovenian Nut bread

Slovenian Nut Bread, Potica (Pronounced paw teet zah) is a traditional Slovenian holiday treat. Have seen it spelled Povitica and Orehova means Walnuts. Orehova Potica would be the most common type.

It is known from Croatia to Poland, but every time I have some I think of Slovenia.

And here is the recipe:

Using these ingredients and 4 hours of your time you can make a batch of Potica.

2 teaspoons dry active yeast

½ Cup warm milk

1 Tablespoon sugar

Dissolve yeast and sugar in milk let set 5 minutes to activate the yeast.

Dough

1 ½ Cups Milk

¾ Cups Shortening

5 Egg Yolks

¾ Cups Sugar

2 teaspoons Salt

1 Tablespoon Vanilla extract

1 teaspoon nutmeg

7-7 ½ Cups All purpose Flour

Combine Yeast mixture and the rest (except 2 Cups of flour) mix add the remaining flour until the dough can be handled without sticking takes 20 minutes kneading by hand, 9 minutes on a mixer with a bread hook.

Put dough in a large greased bowl and cover with plastic rap and let it relax and double in size in a warm environment.

Walnut Filling

1 stick margarine or butter (¼ pound)

1 ½ Cups milk

2 Cups sugar

½ Cup honey

1 tablespoon vanilla

Grated peel of a lemon

5 egg whites

Cinnamon

Some variations you can add at this stage;

Instant coffee, Coco to taste and to add color.

Start with milk and Egg whites in 4 quart saucepan (or double boiler) and bring to 120 F, add margarine, zest and honey, then combine the dry ingredients then add it to the mixure, then bring to a simmer.

Take the mixture off of the heat and add 2 Pounds Walnuts, ground fine.

Roll out the dough pretty thin, spread the filling (should not be hot) on the dough and roll it up (Potica)

You want it to end up as a 4 inch diameter cylinder, cut into loaves that will fit in your bread pans. (Good Idea to have a little piece of dough to put over the ends) or you can also use a “bunt” pan

Cover with plastic wrap and let it relax and rise (not quite double in size)

Egg wash the top if you want a shinny top

Bake in preheated oven at 325 F for 1 hour.

Englands favourite takeaway dish for a long period of time, fish and chips has always been a typical English food. All English communities, especially the working class, have found themselves in love with fish and chips as it provides them with tasty and healthy sustenance after long working days.

Central to the fish and chips is of course the good old fish and chip shop. They arrived for the first time in Northern England though I dont remember exactly when. Today there are thousands and thousands of fish and chip shops all over England, making it probably the most popular food dishes loved by everyone, both the English and foreigners alike.

In addition to this, fish and chips have also become incredibly fashionable at many of the top restaurants in England and a handful of celebrity chefs have made no secret of their love for this fantastic English food tradition.

To be perfectly honest with you, I reckon there is nothing more typically English than walking along the beautiful seafront taking in the nice view and eating fish and chips out of newspaper. And even though on a whole English food might not be the best in the world, fish and chips is surely something that can do justice for English food.

Though I come from a country famous for nice food, I have to admit that I did fall in love with England thanks to fish and chips when I first visited the country. Now that I am back home, I miss them nearly everyday, and as a result the first thing I will definitely do when I go back to England is pop into the nearest chippy.

Fish and chips is definitely an English icon. It would be a surprise if you can find this elsewhere in the world. Even in my hometown Ljubljana, when the first and most well-known fish and chips shop in town was opened, they even failed to include curry sauce on the menu! The newspaper print was also photocopied which was bizarre.

I havent traveled much but to the best of my knowledge such a thing does not exist elsewhere even in America it’s just French-fries. Everyone just knows that fish and chips is a true English food without a shadow of a doubt.

When someone we value smiles at us, we feel thankful to know them—to have that person in our lives, because as we all know, the smile from the one that we love is what lifts our hearts and feeds our egos. We believe every word from those we love. We never doubt their validity nor do we feel worried that they will betray us. The twinkling eyes and spoken words of truth from our friends make us believe that we are loved and special; yet are they being genuine?

When the truth hits you between the eyes and you refuse to accept things for what they are, then you are only hurting yourself. Sometimes, turning away from the truth about our loved ones is the only way we can cope, but in the longrun we still end up getting hurt. I say, the more it quacks, and the more it waddles, makes for a fat duck.

What do you understand, when I say Heaven? Maybe, place where good guys live and beautiful womens wait for you? Ladys, do you see your prince on a white horse riding towards you?! And one more thing come to my ears during writting this post.. so called religion. Not so long time ago, if you were rich, you could live fuck-sy life, then you gave priest some cash and everything was OK!! What was »wrong« with people to believe something like that??

In my openion, its so weird that nobody remembers something like that in capitalism except priests. They have discovered this opportunity to make money long time ago.

Hello World, I opened my eyes finally:-)!!

During my searching, through thousands of hits in my search engine, I fortunately found site, about being paid to post about everything. I said cool, I will give it a try. I have nothing to loose, and everything to gain:-)! I signed in and found the opportunity to make some $$$ for my first post on my blog about PayPerPost. Although I come from Slovenia and my English grammar is not excellent, I found a way, to express my thoughts and practice my English as well. These two things are still the most important reasons to follow the rules:-) and make some good posts about my life and other things that sourround me every day of my life. I know I will not make thousands of dollars. Im happy that I found new friends all over the world, and chat with them, especially Dicky Hardy. This summer Im going to Road Trip and you never know, where we will see each other or maybe have some drinks. PayPerPost is really good "agency" to make friends (without them life have no sense) and some money (to take friends on drink:-))!

History of the Market Hall:

The Market Hall is a refurbished victorian building opened by Queen Elizabeth II on December 1st 1988. It is home to many small independent stalls. There are several butchers and fruiterer, as well as clothing, hardware and pet shops. You will also find a bakery, several gift shops, and a few places to eat. The roof structure is refurbished but retains its original design and shape. Ahead leads to the Market Place. It was originally built by Charles Tomkinson in the early 1800's. From my point of view, big Market Hall for huge (smart) purchases!

I found website, that pays you just to be on the net. You have to set your homepage to the following link and you earn 0,25$ per hour. You can use your usually browser, once the homepage was loaded. I say 30 bucks/month its better than 0$,right??

Today, during the diner, I was watching Tv show in our national Tv. They were talking about going to pension and other stuff for older popularity. I almost ate all diner, when nun called to the studio. Leader of the show, asked her, what does it mean if the NUN GOES IN PENSION???? Ok I said, thats a very interesting question. I asked myself, if we "normal people" go to pension, that means, that we stop working in our full time job, right? But what does it change for nuns? Do they stop to pray for the almighty lord - god?? Who crops the roses?.. and what do they live for, if they are in pension?? I still havent found the answer, did you??

I know that in some parts of the world, frog legs are considered a delicacy but I am not THAT adventurous. Lucky for me (and people like me), toad in the hole has nothing to do with this particular animal.

In fact, it is a traditional dish prepared for breakfast in the UK. Toad in the hole is a very hearty breakfast dish comprised of sausages placed in Yorkshire pudding batter and served with gravy and eggs. Nothing to do with toads at all, right?

I have been trying to find a good and easy toad in the hole recipe to follow. There is no lack for recipes for this dish on the Internet, trust me. They are all over the place! This one is supposed to date back to the 1930s! If you are not in the UK, though, I don’t know if the particular brand of sausages will be available:-p.

Now let's getting started with my strategy. You simply chose between Red and Black and bet a small amount of 1€ in every round. Let's assume you place a bet on red. The wheel spins and red wins. Congratulations! You win the bet and double your bet amount of 1€.

Red wins: You get 4€. This is double the bet amount of 2€. In the first round you have placed 1$, in the second round 2€. Adding these amounts you have placed 3€ on red. Due to the fact that you won the second round, you made a net profit of 4€-3€=1€.

What can you learn from this? You made a correct decision and doubled the bet amount in the second round which protects you from making any losses at all. Hence follows that you always win your betting amount of 1€ even if you lost the round before.

Black wins: You have lost two times in a row. Accordingly to the roulette strategy described above you double the bet amount another time and place 4€ on red.

Let's assume now red wins, therefore you get double the amount of 4€, which means that you win 8€. To get this money you did the following investments: 1€(1. Round) + 2€(2. Round) + 4€(3. Round), which add up to 1€+2€+4€=7€. Your net profit is 8€-7€=1€, the same as above. As you can see, applying this strategy you always win 1€ no matter how often you lost. If you lose the bet in the third round again, you raise your bet to 8€ and so on. If you want, you can calculate the results of a forth of fifth round, but it becomes a bit complicated. The result is always the same. You win 1€.

Today I was in Maribor in a firm Vinag. They produce one of the best wine I have ever tasted. When I drank a half of the bottle I realised how special this wine is... Then I asked, what is this thing that make my brains so happy:-p. Vine-grover said:

To make icewine, you must wait until the grapes have frozen naturally on the vines—typically, you look for two solid days of temperatures in the range of 9°F (–13°C) to 14°F (–10°C). This implies a very late harvest, of course, which in turn means that the grapes will have a very high sugar content. DoG - My BeSt FriEnD

Chat to any dog lover and they'll sing the praises of these amazing animals. Completely devoted to their master, they ask so little and yet offer so much. I could write pages about the strengths of the humble canine, I could advise why so many people prefer the companionship of a dog rather than another member of the human race or how a pet can replace a deceased loved one. But I'm not going to, instead my story is about one very special dog, my dog, Bear.

He's now fourteen years old. He is, and has been, the best dog in the World. He's my best friend and has been my constant companion and I pray that we've given him as much love and affection as he has so willingly given to us.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie the first time I saw it, laughing most of the way. By the second look, Bill Murray's deliberately obnoxious-pushy character now started driving me crazy, too. No longer was it just Richard Dreyfuss being tormented. By the third viewing, I'd had enough.

Murray, "Bob," is so annoying, so irritating, that you either laugh or want to kill this guy yourself as he hounds his psychiatrist all over the place. Kudos to Dreyfuss to put up with, even if it's just acting. Murray certainly did his job well in this film. He was the perfect actor to play "Bob."

Highly recommended for one but beware "Bob" may drive you nuts, too.

GoOgLe's "I'm FeEling LuCky" ButToN

Time and time again, people ask the obvious question about Google's "I'm Feeling Lucky" button. I asked myself, "With the removal of humorous "Ads by Gooooogle" and the era of personalized search (iGoogle) is the removal of the "I'm feeling lucky" button eminent?"

In reality, I don't think many people use that button nor do they see a point to it. (I'd love for Google to post their statistics on its usage!). Judging by the comments on the internet, some people have never even tried it. It's sticking for branding purposes, though I think the term "Google" suffices as a brand and is pretty sustainable in and of itself.
